Leonard Cohen (1934-2016)

Today we say good-bye to Leonard Cohen, one of Canada’s greatest poets and song-writers who was a life-long seeker for spiritual truths. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships

His repertoire from the early part of his career  (1960s-80s) always enjoyed a sort of “cult” status, never becoming mainstream popular music.

He spent 5 years living in seclusion  as a Buddhist monk in California.

In 2004   he discovered Kelley Lynch, his manager and one-time lover,  had siphoned millions of dollars from his bank accounts. Straitened financial circumstances and a family to provide for forced him at the age of 70+ to embark once again on world tours,  becoming even more popular than he had been in the first half of his career.

This is the theme song of his last album, which was released only a couple of weeks ago.

  1. was at a party last night and one elderly conservative American lady, holding down a professional position, said she had never heard of him! didn’t know what all the fuss was about in the newspapers!
