Whither the EU? Withers the EU?

The dreadful dilemma the Greek people and their government have faced proves you can be pro-Euro and you can be anti-austerity,

but you can’t be both.

Greek finance minister Euclid Tsakalotos said backing the reforms as part of the bailout terms would “burden me my whole life“.

Jürgen Habermas, one of Germany’s leading intellectuals, criticised Angela Merkel for her handling of the Greek crisis.

Forcing the Greek government to agree to an economically questionable, predominantly symbolic privatisation fund cannot be understood as anything other an act of punishment against a leftwing government.

Merkel gambled half a century of political capital to bring Alexis Tsipras into line.

Here she is gambling the same capital  again, with a representative of another group of people !!
