The attack [on Kercher] was strong, and repeated, and carried out by more than one person.
The Italian Supreme Court has just declared Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Knox are innocent of
the murder of
British student, Meredith Kercher,
in Via Della Pergola 7, Perugia, Italy, in 2007.
As far as Italy is concerned, the case is closed.
The only guilty party is Rudy Guede, basketball player,
African drifter, petty thief and small-time drug dealer
In the month and a half that Meredith Kercher was in Italy, Guede robbed four people, entering premises through a second story window, once using a rock.
He had eaten food, set a fire, killed a cat and was caught red-handed with stolen goods from two of those robberies.
He was found guilty for assisting in the Kercher murder. He is serving time for being an accomplice to murder and for sexual violence. With person or persons unknown
Guede’s story: ” I was there, but Some Other Dude Did It.”
When he went to the bathroom, to relive himself of the “spicy kebab,” a stranger came in and killed Meredith. When he heard her scream he stepped out of the bathroom, with his pants down, as a stranger ran by yelling that the “black man would be blamed.” He pulled up his pants and ran into Meredith’s room to find her bleeding profusely, then grabbed towels out of the bathroom to try and stop the flow of blood. But he was unsuccessful and so he ran away, frightened that he would be blamed for her murder.
.«I’m not happy” he said. “I’m innocent»
Open Questions: Why doesn’t Guede name names and say who was in the house with him at the time of the murder?
Was Ms Kercher killed by Guede, as she interupted him in the act of burgling her house?
Is the guilty man in gaol?
On the other hand, as Ellekappa, famous Italian cartoonist wrote
“Rudy Guede is the only person in prison for the murder of Meredith Kercher
Black beyond all reasonable doubt!”
Lawyer Francesco Maresca, who represented the Kercher family, was surprised by the Supreme Court verdict
“Since the Court debated the issue for such a long time, they must have had a lot to discuss.
The judges said there was not enough proof to convict Knox and Sollecito and we still don’t know who was with Rudy Guede”,
Open Questions: Who was involved in the murder?
What was the motivation? A Hallowe’en sex and drugs orgy? A banal quarrel over housekeeping between flatmates Meredith and Amanda? An interupted burglary?
What were the dynamics of the killing?
Who gained from the “not guilty”verdict?
1)Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, obviously.
- Amanda Knox was reportedly paid £2.7million for her first book Waiting to Be Heard
- Miss Knox’s defence lawyer confirmed she will seek ‘compensation for wrongful imprisonment’
- Sollecito is also reportedly planning to seek compensation for time wrongly spent in prison.
- While no figures have been revealed, compensation for such cases regularly run into seven figure sums.
2) Their lawyers who won a headline case, enhancing their reputations and probably future fees,
3) Italy which avoided a lot of legal and diplomatic headaches with the USA –
Can you imagine the legal morass that could arise over
*attempts to extradite Ms Knox,
*debates with US lawyers on a U.S. constitutional ban on double jeopardy, or being tried twice for the same offense, after an acquittal,
*potential for souring the friendly Italy-USA relationship
Who lost out ? Innocent parties
1) The Kercher family. They’ve lost a daughter and have obtained little legal redress.
For them the Italian justice system has failed
2) Meredith, the forgotten victim, as the mass media went into a frenzy over Foxy Knoxy
3) the owner of the house. She’s losing rental income and loss of property value
in December 2013 the house was put on the market at a price of 460,000 Euros
By April 2014 the estate agent dropped the price to just over £312,000 in for a quick sale.
“The owner of the property really wants to sell the house,” the agent said.
“But it has not been easy to find potential buyers who are willing to overlook the fact that a murder took place there.”
“The owner hates the negative association her property has with the Meredith connection and really just wants to be free of the place now.”
Update: June 2015: The property has been sold for a sum “well below the market value“
